Some retired officers of Nigeria Police Force has alleged that the office of welfare in Force headquarters Abuja of the Nigeria Police is collecting between 25,000 and 40,000 naira before discharge certificate that was duly signed by the Police Service Commission(PSC) and sent to office of the Inspector General of Police(IGP) through the office of the welfare can be delivered to the retirees.
One of the retirees who spoke under condition of anonymity on behalf of others alleged that it is an open secret even though the welfare office may want to deny it.
The officer disclosed that some of them have waited for months without getting the discharge letter which necessitated the complaint and letter they have prepared which will be sent to Inspector
of General Police,Senate President and Speaker House of Representatives.
The retiree said the same public service rules provided in 020808 stipulates the payment of retirement benefits with requirement of discharge certificate which responsibility is assigned to Police Service Commission(PSC).
The retiree disclosed that is a known fact that retired Police officers cannot work for their retirement benefits without endorsement of the discharge certificate which the Police Service Commission has done without demanding a dime but the discharge certificate have not be delivered to some of the retirees because of alleged monetary demands by the welfare office in Force headquarters Abuja.
The retired officer appealed to Inspector General of Police,IGP Kayode Egbetokun to set up Service Delivery Committee to ensure these letters get to the affected officers as at when due as many of the retirees who are alive today are suffering and dying without enjoying their benefits, remuneration and allowance haven escaped from men of the under world and hazard on the job while in active service.
